Lab Technician

Location: Fremont, CA     Type: Full-time

About Ventiva

Ventiva is transforming thermal management from a system constraint into a design enabler. Our patented, solid-state ionic cooling platforms deliver targeted airflow—with no moving parts, noise, vibration, or dust—freeing critical board space, enabling chip-adjacent memory, and allowing components to sustain peak performance without throttling. These modular platforms unlock new system architectures that deliver higher performance and greater efficiency with unprecedented design flexibility, across applications from thin-and-light AI inference laptops to real-time industrial vision systems to high-density server racks.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Lab Technician to support our engineering and development teams. You will execute hardware test sample/system builds, manage critical lab infrastructure and inventory, and build specialized reliability test setups. This role requires technical precision, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to maintaining a safe, efficient lab environment.

What You’ll Own

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Test Sample/System Build

  • Assemble prototype units for time-zero and reliability test; build, modify, and rework complex electromechanical sample units.
  • Perform fine-pitch manual soldering (including rework on small SMT components) under magnification/microscope.
  • Conduct conformal coating, potting, and precision tape application as part of system assembly.
  • Solder wires and manually assemble cable/wire harnesses.
  • Follow work instructions (WIs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Complete build travelers/assembly forms and documentation; maintain component serial number/lot ID traceability logs.

Lab Infrastructure & Inventory Management

  • Track, order, and organize electronic components, tools, and consumables.
  • Schedule and track routine calibration for lab equipment.
  • Maintain strict adherence to ESD, chemical handling/storage/disposal, and laser safety protocols.
  • Keep benches clean, organized, and properly equipped for engineering team.

Reliability Test Fixture Development

  • Develop and review test fixtures; monitor test/build processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective output.
  • Design and assemble custom fixtures, wiring harnesses, and test boards.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade automated reliability test equipment.
  • Install and configure test scripts on execution nodes; initiate and monitor reliability tests.

And other tasks, as may be assigned from time to time.

What You Bring

Required

  • Associate degree or above in Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; a certificate/diploma from an accredited technical or vocational institution is also accepted. Candidates without a qualifying degree or certificate should have a minimum of 4 years of directly relevant hardware/lab experience in lieu.
  • 2+ years working in a hardware development, electro-mechanical system development, or failure analysis lab.
  • Advanced manual soldering and micro-soldering skills, including fine-pitch/rework under a microscope.
  • High proficiency with digital multimeters, continuity testers, and power supplies.
  • Experience using Excel and basic script execution.
  • Detail-oriented: high accuracy in data logging and component tracking. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams. Comfortable pivoting between tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Current or prior IPC certifications as a Certified IPC Specialist (CIS):
    • IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 (Soldering Requirements)
    • IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies)
    • IPC-7711/7721 (Rework, Modification, and Repair of Electronic Assemblies)
  • Scripting proficiency (e.g. Python).
  • Experience with a traceability/data system (MES, PLM, ERP, or structured database) for tracking component SNs/lot IDs.
